Overview

Supports and implements OpenStudio energy modeling for energy programs, energy planning, carbon optimization, and implementation services. Prototypes and maintains application solutions, software infrastructure, and analysis services to internal and external clients to enable new data-driven insights of energy efficiency program and project performance and to capitalize on opportunities for innovation and increased impact. Adheres to best practices for software development, data management, and data analysis. Develops automation, prototypes, and proofs-of-concept as needed to validate and implement data analysis requirements, workflows, techniques, and methods. Conducts software development lifecycle tasks as needed as part of the Engineering team, contributing to a mission-driven, creative, enjoyable, and stimulating work environment.

 

Location:

This is a remote position, and the ideal candidate will be located in the states where VEIC conducts business: CA, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, MT, NJ, NY, PA, OH, RI, VA, VT, AND WI. Please note that while we welcome applicants from many areas, we do not currently hire in the following parts of New York: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Compensation:

At VEIC, we are committed to pay transparency. The starting pay range for this position will be between $80,000-$90,000 annually. Based on market data, pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and location. Please discuss your intended work location with the recruiter for more information. The total compensation package for this position also includes a full range of medical benefits, 403(b) eligibility with match, Combined Time Off (CTO), Care and Concern leave, Parental leave, wellbeing benefit, a community service day, and eight paid holidays that are effective as of your first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Produces, implements, and supports data analytics software for internal and external clients.
  • Provides OpenStudio building energy modeling software support, including and not limited to:
    • Writing Python scripts to support modeling, input matrices, output visualization, customer friendly user-interfaces, and connecting to key features of physics- based calculation engines.
    • Structure programming to allow for flexibility and scalability of modeling inputs, outputs, variables
    • Create visualizations and output reports of modeling outputs that are easy for clients to understand and interpret.
  • Provides energy modeling and data analytical services using OpenStudio and other related software tools for VEIC clients.
  • Assists in solution development process, including aspects of service, software, and data architecture; user requirements; user interface/experience design; testing/QA; maintenance; documentation; source code control; continuous integration, and release management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience developing software to support data-based business decisions or combination of software plus technical experience in building systems engineering, energy modeling, and sustainable design.
  • Fluency or exposure to the following:
    • Python, Flask/Django, SQL, Linux, R, C#, C++, HTML, CSS, JavaScript or similar frameworks;
    • Data acquisition concepts, software, libraries;
    • Data mining, information retrieval, machine learning, and/or statistics;
    • Documentation of analysis procedures and functions;
    • Development of analysis and computational tools;
    • Refactoring, unit testing, and object-oriented programming techniques;
    • Version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
  • Exposure to building modeling techniques, HVAC systems, and building science.
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and able to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to put together concise, articulate communications to internal stakeholders and communicate with non-technical stakeholders to define and document project requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
