Overview

The Manager, Digital is a key leadership role responsible for managing and leading a dynamic team of web developers to maintain, improve, and innovate our online presence. This role will be instrumental in enhancing the user experience, ensuring the website is up-to-date, and optimizing online communication to support our mission of promoting energy efficiency. Leading the development team, they translate strategies and creative solutions into the development of intelligent and engaging online experiences. This role manages a high-production digital team that works cross-functionally to develop and execute innovative and strategic campaigns across all VEIC’s public-facing websites, web applications, and tools.

Responsibilities

Leadership

• Leads and mentors a team of web developers.
• Fosters a collaborative and innovative work environment.
• Ensures effective project management and delivers high-quality results.
• Troubleshoots bottlenecks and resourcing gaps and identifies the need for additional internal and external resources.
• Proactively coaches employees, colleagues, and partners on best web development practices.


Web Development
• Oversees the development and maintenance of VEIC’s websites and web applications.
• Ensures all web properties align with current industry best practices and accessibility standards.
• Maintains a portfolio of day-to-day maintenance of VEIC’s web properties, including small, medium, and large projects—from website rebuilds to fixing web bugs.


Strategy and Planning
• Guides cross-functional teams to understand organizational goals and translate them into web development strategies.

• Communicates and plans with internal partners to develop website functionalities and integrate digital tools (including third-party applications) and tactics into VEIC’s customer engagement and marketing activities.
• Identifies and prioritizes digital initiatives, including website enhancements.


Quality Assurance
• Implements and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes.
• Performs regular testing and debugging to ensure optimal website performance.
Content Management
• Governs CMS content access and updates, ensuring information is current and accurate.
• Implements and maintain a content management system (CMS) for easy updates.
• Oversees the implementation and the maintenance of website system architecture
• Collaborates strategically with DATSIT regarding website infrastructure and systems, DNS and server administration.


User Experience (UX)
• Continuously plans improvements to the user experience by implementing user-centric design and navigation enhancements.
• Conducts user testing and feedback analysis to make data-driven improvements.
• Ensures development adheres to best practices for user experience (UX) patterns, core web vitals, SEO accessibility, security, and consumer data regulations.


Security and Compliance
• Collaborates with Information Security to maintain a robust cybersecurity posture, ensuring the safety of user data and website integrity.
• Collaborates with Networking on the management of secure service providers and hosting.
• Ensures web properties comply with all relevant regulations and standards.


Analytics and Reporting
• Partners with Digital Marketing Analyst to implement analytics tools to track website performance, generate reports and provide insights to inform decision-making.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, plus 8+ years of website development experience or a similar combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.

• Extensive knowledge of web development practices and processes, code sharing and management, UX/UI design, information architecture, and data architecture.
• Extensive knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and CMS administration.
• Demonstrated project management skills and experience, including planning, facilitation, vendor management, communications, and the ability to develop and attain goals effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to partner with technical experts and support the needs of internal clients, partners, and vendors on time.
• Demonstrated ability to translate market strategies into actionable digital initiatives.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills, as well as the ability to identify and implement the best allocation of resources to ensure the successful completion of projects.
• Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral), organization, and planning skills.
• Orchard CMS and Craft CMS experience is highly desired.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Internal - Office work is normally performed in either a home office or in VEIC’s climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of office job duties. Depending on territory assignment, a remote work arrangement may be required or optional.
External - Less than 10% travel required ….

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed materials and computer screen. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing of approximately 40 pounds such as files, documents, and some equipment. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level. Repetitive motion injuries may occur. Company will provide adaptive devices as needed.
