Overview

VEIC seeks an inspiring team leader to manage a group of talented engineers focused on energy efficiency for commercial and industrial customers in Vermont. The ideal candidate has strong technical aptitude and a passion for coaching and developing teams, with demonstrated commitment to mentorship, meaningful goal setting, and motivating the best from teams.

 

This individual will manage, supervise, coordinate, and lead the activities and staff necessary to optimize the delivery of energy services to VEIC energy efficiency utility (EEU) customers (residential, multifamily, commercial, industrial and institutional). Responsible for ensuring that staff have the tools, resources and training necessary to meet objectives in alignment with VEIC contract and mission goals. The successful candidate will be aligned to VEIC’s mission and will work closely with our EEU management team.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs Engineering staff in the development and delivery of high-quality technical services to EEU staff and customers. Mentors staff and holds staff accountable to meeting performance goals.
  • Provides supervision for the Engineering staff to include:
    • providing real-time constructive feedback on an ongoing basis;
    • developing and communicating clear guidelines and expectations;
    • assessing individual training needs and coordinating training accordingly;
    • guiding and supporting employees as they establish individual performance and professional development goals to maximize the performance, efficiency and work quality in support of the team;
    • providing appropriate support and action in managing performance problems;
    • overseeing staff recruitment and orientation.
  • Coordinates with Efficiency Vermont Management Team to establish and hold staff accountable to achieving team goals aligned with VEIC and EEU goals.
  • Collaborates with the Efficiency Vermont Management Team and other VEIC groups and divisions on cross-functional initiatives, with understanding and flexibility to build organizational unity, efficiency and success.
  • Develops models for efficient work flows and provides guidance and training to engineering staff to enable execution. Plans, implements and oversees optimized allocation of engineering to maximize effectiveness in alignment with Efficiency Vermont and VEIC goals.
  • Leads and coordinates staff and subcontractors in the design, development and implementation of strategies, initiatives and activities to support work plans.
  • Identifies and keeps current with industry trends and best practices and develops methods for communicating to staff and customers to ensure appropriate knowledge transfer.
  • Develops and manages services and approaches to ensure appropriate, consistent and quality customer service, energy analysis, documentation, communication and achievement of established performance and/or contractual expectations.
  • Develops guidance on incentive levels, establishing timelines and staffing needs for EEU services and initiatives.
  • Oversees the work and performance of subcontractors, as necessary, working on assigned market activities to ensure that contractual obligations are met in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner.
  • Supports the coordination of activities with other staff, groups and divisions within VEIC as is necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  •  Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field, plus at least 5 years of professional experience, including 2 years supervising technical staff, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Management experience, including leadership, facilitation, staff supervision, contracts, budget management, communications and ability to develop and attain goals.
  • Ability to motivate, develop, mentor and engage staff to support VEIC's mission and division/group goals.
  • Experience in creating best practices and innovating and implementing activities to accomplish group/division goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and the ability to handle competing priorities.
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets and database software.
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail oriented, accurate and able to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of the markets in which the Engineering group is active, including residential, multi-family, commercial, institutional and/or industrial building design. Ability to understand and evaluate services and technical analysis of energy efficiency opportunities in these types of facilities.
  • Ability to develop relationships with and oversee work of contractors, regulators, third-party reviewers, customers, trade allies, building designers and utility representatives.
