The HR Generalist supports the daily functions of the People and Culture (HR) department including support of benefits administration, leave coordination and management, payroll supportand partnering with HR Business Partners (HRBPs) to retain and recruit staff - all in an effort to carry out company policies and practiceswhile contributing to an inclusive, mission-driven, creative, innovative, and inspiring work environment.

  • Support the maintenance and integrity of the HRIS (ADP) by performing routine tasks required to administer and execute HR programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits and leave. 
  • Assist in maintaining personnel records/files.  
  • Coordinate and maintain all records and paperwork and tracking of all leave for staff, collaborating with HRBPs and Benefits Administrator, ensuring both accuracy and timeliness.  
  • Provide VEIC HR policy and procedure guidance to staff, as required. 
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment compliance requirements. 
  • Assist with payroll processing. 
  • Provide support and act as back-up to Benefits Administrator as needed. 
  • Collaborates with HRBPs with the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions and works with team to develop and implement effective talent acquisition strategies.  
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications as needed. 
  • Participates in new hire orientation and employee recognition programs. 
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate HR staff. 
  • Partnering with Learning & Development Manager, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications. 
  • Maintains and shares knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. 
  • Supports the coordination of workers compensation. 
  • Supports annual open benefits enrollment.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 



  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field and at least three years human resources experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Understanding and experience with personnel and compliance records management. 
  • Proven experience with staff leaves (i.e. FMLA) coordination and management. 
  • Proven project management and time management skills. 
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database software including extensive Windows and Microsoft Office applications experience.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience working in payroll and HRIS systems. 



  • Experience working in the ADP HRIS / Payroll system.  
  • Professional HR Certification (SPHR, PHRSHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP). 
  • Familiarity working in a non-profit environment in the energy sector.
