Job Summary:

The Emerging Technologies & Services Intern is responsible for identifying, researching, and assessing a wide variety of innovative technology developments and program delivery strategies related to Efficiency Vermont’s work. This position will gather data to support the prioritization of new efficient technologies to bring to the Vermont market. “Technologies” include equipment and products that help businesses and homes operate more efficiently. The Emerging Technologies & Services Intern will then draft “opportunity briefs” for those technologies most ripe for success in Vermont. Relying heavily on exceptional curiosity and organizational skills, the Emerging Technologies & Services Intern will serve as an integral member of a team dedicated to galvanizing innovation within Efficiency Vermont while contributing to a mission-driven, creative, enjoyable, and stimulating work environment.

Essential Functions:

·       Identifies and researches emerging technologies and services that have high potential to be effective in the Vermont market.
·       Engages in rigorous, thoughtful, and communicative prioritization process to identify which among many ideas have the greatest relevance and potential impact.
·       Develops and presents “opportunity briefs” for high potential ideas that are accessible, thorough, and communicate the benefits and risks of engaging versus not engaging in a particular area of work.
·       Supports the work of fellow team members’ initiatives and opportunity briefs as needed.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to convey complex information in accessible and relatable language; position includes drafting “opportunity briefs” for high potential opportunities in the Vermont market.
  • Prioritization skills: ability to balance and compare competing priorities and accurately collect data to help assess the best path(s) forward.
  • Project Management Skills: ability to work independently in a self-motivated and self-confident manner, incubating a project from an idea to a final deliverable.
  • Interest in, if not familiarity with, Energy Justice and how it can apply to emerging technologies and services.
  • Curiosity and interest in research, new energy frontiers, and innovation.
  • Enthusiastic and optimistic approach to problem-solving; Inspired by challenges.

Working Conditions:

Internal - Work is normally performed in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.

External - No travel is required.
